Strategies to Own Your Week, Sunday Planning, and Resets
5 Ideas to Set Your Week Up for Success
Hey friend,
I love Sundays.
After working all week as a business analyst, I focus on Church activities and on my writings on Saturdays. Then Sunday is my strategic self-care and reset day.
I meditate. I journal. I pray. I disconnect. I reflect.
But it’s also a day to set yourself up for success for the upcoming week.
Sundays are a blank canvas, waiting for us to paint the week ahead with purpose and clarity.
This week, I wanted to share with you 5 transformative ideas that help me set intentions and plan strategically, ensuring every day works for you, not against you.
1. The One-Word Intention
Start by choosing one word that embodies how you want to feel or act this week—Bold, Patient, Creative. Let this guide your decisions, plans, and mindset.
2. The Three-Tier Weekly Plan
Divide your goals into three levels:
Non-negotiables: The must-dos, like deadlines or key tasks.
Impactful Goals: High-value items that align with your bigger picture.
Extras: Tasks you’d like to tackle if time allows.
This keeps your priorities clear and prevents overwhelm.
3. The "What If" Question
Ask yourself: What if I focused on my energy, not just my time? Instead of packing your schedule, plan your week around your energy highs and lows. Schedule creative work when you’re most alert, and leave admin tasks for when energy dips.
4. The Sunday Reset Ritual
Dedicate 30 minutes to a "reset." Journal about last week’s wins and lessons, clear your inbox or workspace, and outline your week’s intentions. This practice creates mental clarity and sets a productive tone.
5. The Hourglass Perspective
Visualize your week as an hourglass. The top half is for big-picture planning—what really matters? The middle is for focus—what can I realistically accomplish this week? And the bottom is for reflection—what worked, and how will I adapt?
By applying even just one of these ideas, you’ll approach your week with clarity and purpose, avoiding the Monday morning scramble and ending the week with a sense of accomplishment.
Let me know which idea resonates with you the most, or share your own Sunday planning rituals—I’d love to hear them!
Rooting for you as always.
Until next Sunday,
Jono
